L'Albiousse

Languedoc-Roussillon, France

Only a short journey from the Roman town of Nimes sits L'Albiousse in Uzes, a seriously decadent townhouse that has an ethnic-urban style. Preserving a classic way of French living, this historical charm is the perfect boutique hideaway.

Provencal Queen

Behind its gorgeously old-fashioned wooden doors, this 16th-century house was named after one of its former owners and welcomes all travellers with a pretty cobbled courtyard, just as it's done for hundreds of years.

The Location

Uzes, a pretty market town is a secret hideaway, well hidden from the tourist traps in the larger cities. Don’t miss the market on a Wednesday or Saturday for fresh bread, sausages and of course doorstops of cheese.

The Rooms

Formed of only 5 bedrooms, means that you're guaranteed plenty of space, with high ceilings and typically French large windows. The soft shades of grey look contemporary but are actually very typical of the 16th century.

Nibbles & Tipples

More like a familiar country house than a hotel, L'Albiousse has a noble charm that's been given a quirky edge by the private Welsh owners. Indulge in the elegant dining room, with handmade chandeliers made from old ventilation pipes.

The plant-laden courtyard is the heart of the hotel, where you can take breakfast in country living style.

God is in the details

While you're not terribly near a beach, there's plenty to explore. Try the town's amazing medieval garden which has a herbarium for natural remedies.
