Highly Individual Places, that make travel memorable...

Pousada Etnia

The town of Trancoso consists of nothing more than wooden fishermen’s shacks, painted impossibly bright colours, and a whitewashed church, but it has the distinction that all of its buildings are arranged along a quadrado – a barefoot interpretation of a village square. With such charm and ethnic beauty, simple though it may be, word was bound to get out, and sure enough in the eighties a different kind of individual came here to escape: one with money, a day job and a desire to drop out. Afterwards, the rich, the chic and the VIPs all started to arrive, but it wasn’t the beginning of the end because, along with the chic, the town has retained its hippy credentials.
At Pousada Etnia, your own private bungalow is a minimal haven, decorated with no fuss, just plenty of space; even breakfast, featuring every cake, crêpe, cookie, biscuit or baguette that has ever been called Brazilian, is beautifully and simply presented. It’s a great combination – peace, serenity and seclusion when you want it; barefoot outdoor dining, in any number of casual beach shacks, when you don’t.
The beach is a ten to fifteen minute walk away from the property, but more importantly, Trancoso’s quadrado is virtually next door.
