A design lead chateau in Burgundy, what’s not to love? Chateau de la Resle sits on six acres and dates back to the 17th century. It’s a classic ivy-clad country escape that’s been stunningly updated for a 21st-century guest.
Using darker colour palettes for a modern take on the countryside French design, the chateau’s owners transformed the house – there’s no chintz or flowery curtains here. Instead, you have a mid-century design that incorporates original features and acres of space.
Close to Chablis and Auxerre for classic French markets, Chateau de la Resle sits between plenty of fine dining restaurants, vineyards and antique shops in the heart of traditional Burgundy.
A choice of two bedrooms and four suites keeps things intimate. The loft suites are light and airy, with exposed beams and neutral tones. The rooms mix contemporary art with Regency colours for a quirky, luxurious feel.
In the evening the chef takes to the converted barn to whip up a seasonal menu that focuses on healthy and organic ingredients followed by something like a light pannacotta.
While there’s no formal bar, grab a drink on the modernist terrace or by the heated pool where you can lounge in luxury.
Take a walk in the formal gardens that surround the chateau before popping along to one of the many vineyards in the area. Perfect for a long weekend break.
