The British seaside has been redefined by The Scarlet. Blankets, umbrellas, cucumber sandwiches and self-sacrificing discomfort have been replaced by spa treatments, surfing and cuisine worthy of a Michelin star. The same rugged beauty that has always defined Cornwall's Southwest coast is still here but the approach to hospitality has changed completely. It's official; it is no longer embarrassing or pretentious to subscribe to a healthy fix of hedonism.
Hanging over the exquisitely secluded beach of Mawgan Porth, The Scarlet introduces cutting-edge architecture, contemporary design, colour, art and a second to none spa to one of the most captivating locations in Cornwall.
Rambling hills of emerald green dotted with unpretentious cottages, shores lined with imposing sentinels of dark volcanic stone, big sandy beaches; king tides.. these are the ingredients that have made Cornwall the most desirable destination in the UK. Situated less than 10 minutes from Newquay airport; The Scarlet is perched on a steep headland facing one of the most picturesque coves in Britain.
It's all about the view. All the guest rooms face the sea and the interiors, with their solid oak floors and elegantly muted design, take a very sophisticated back seat to the endlessly engaging vista.
Tucked into a mezzanine floor overlooking the main restaurant, the bar offers a more intimate ambience. It is the perfect counterpart to the open sweeping double height space of the restaurant.
The food, like the Spa, is top notch. In France they would call it 'Cuisine Minceur' - food that is prepared with health and wellbeing in mind, as well as taste.
The Scarlet strategy: 'look good' - 'feel good' applies to the design, to the location, the facilities, the view and just as importantly... to the food.
