The Dragon Festival In Ljubljana Slovenia

On Our Radar

Ljubljana is Slovenia’s fantastic capital city and highly regarded for its expansive green spaces and zero waste initiatives and is high up on our radar this month! As far as things to do in Ljubljana, this postcard-perfect city is full of surprises and no more so than its annual Dragon Festival which consists of a large, vibrant Shrovetide parade galloping through the city’s streets. Ljubljana’s symbol is a dragon after all — with its famous Art Nouveau Dragon Bridge set over the Ljubljanica River, so if you happen to visit in March, you’ll certainly be in for a treat. Participants dress as traditional Slovenian Pagan figures, reflecting the local features of the history of the rural environments and a host of entertainment, from brass bands to puppet theatre and dancing. After all the excitement wash it all down with some delicious Potica dessert, a yeast-dough cake which is a classic favourite in Slovenia. We’ll see you there!
