Cutting edge urban design and the antique world of a 16th-century townhouse combine to spectacular effect in the old inner city of Antwerp.
Stylish and historic, Hotel Julien presents the convenience and ambience of a historic inner city location with a pared-down modern approach to the interiors.
Situated in the heart of historic Antwerp, a stone's throw from the old city square, this city resembles Amsterdam in many ways. Both became rich on the proceeds of trade with the Far East and both cities used their wealth to endow the arts. Amsterdam had Rembrandt; Antwerp had Rubens.
The original ceiling height and generous proportions of the original rooms of this former aristocrats townhouse have been preserved. The rest has been modernised in a style that this part of Belgium has become famous for.
The breakfast room, with its own outdoor courtyard and floor to ceiling windows, this is a very ethereal space.
The bar is a beautifully elegant structure in a long chamber just off the hotel's living room. The tall oval windows hint at the fact that this formerly would have been the stables.
The view, from a small window in the staircase, from the roof terrace and from some of the rooms private terraces and balconies are of the Cathedral of Our Lady, adjacent to the city square.
