Best Boutique Ski Hotels in Europe: Where to Stay 2026/27

Top Picks

Some people ski from first lift to last and want the piste at the door. Others come for the fire, the hot chocolate and the view, and treat the slopes as a bonus. Either way, where you sleep shapes the whole trip. Here are ten HIP Hotels for the 2026/27 season, from slopeside stays to a village you can reach by snowmobile.

High up and far from the crowds

Chetzeron, Crans-Montana

Chetzeron was once a cable car station, and now it’s a stone-clad hideaway at 2,112 metres, with huge panoramic windows facing the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Guests (and visitors for lunch) arrive by cable car or snowmobile. Inside, there’s a fire in the lobby, raw wines by the glass and a terrace with sheepskin throws. The mountains are the decoration.

Hôtellerie de Mascognaz, Champoluc

This is a former Walser village high in the Ayas Valley, now eleven restored chalets, reached only by snowmobile or 4x4. Expect raw timber beams, wool throws and stone fireplaces, with a restaurant serving handmade pasta, Aostan cheeses and wild game. The pace is slow, with heli-skiing above the village, and a spa beneath ancient stone with a glass-walled pool for afterwards.

Hotel Goldener Berg, Oberlech

In the car-free village of Oberlech, 1,700 metres up and reached by gondola in winter, this family-run hotel describes itself as a Mountain Selfcare Resort. It has 37 rooms, many with Swiss stone pine, four restaurants and the choice of plant-based, alkaline, vegetarian or traditional menus. The spa was renovated in 2024, and yoga and meditation are part of the day, so it suits skiers who want to rest properly.

Ski-in, ski-out

Boutique Hotel Fil da Mont, Val Gardena

Beneath the Sassolungo at 1,800 metres, this Dolomites hotel has the Sellaronda at its door. Rooms are sleek and natural, with a touch of nostalgia, and the rate includes half-board, ski storage and public transport tickets. Four-course dinners celebrate South Tyrolean produce, and the hotel’s Rifugio Comici, at 2,154 metres, is a mountain restaurant that skiers reach straight from the slopes.

Hotel Edelweiss, Zürs

The first ski hotel in Zürs, which opened in 1856, is nothing like a traditional lodge. Bold patterns, clashing colours and individually designed rooms make it one of the most unusual stays in the Arlberg. Dinner is a choice between Austrian classics at the Flexenhäusl and vegetarian fine dining at TIAN, led by Michelin-starred chef Paul Ivic. The hotel closes in mid-April and reopens on 10 December 2026.

Hotel Arlmont, St. Anton am Arlberg

Sitting directly on the slope at the valley station of the Nassereinbahn cable car, the Arlmont has an architectural look, with clean lines, warm natural wood and floor-to-ceiling windows. After the lifts close, the 550m² MONT Spa spreads over three levels, with a rooftop pool and a panoramic herbal sauna. There’s an in-house ski depot, and the village centre is a ten-minute stroll away.

Village charm and chalet comfort

Hotel Schwarzer Adler, St. Anton am Arlberg

Five generations of the same family have run this hotel, in the middle of St. Anton, for over 400 years. It’s steps from the main cable cars, with a heated rooftop Sky Pool for stargazing and AdlerCuisine, which has two Gault&Millau toques. It’s also powered entirely by renewable energy.

HUUS Gstaad, Gstaad

A log cabin outside and a mix of tartan throws, dark wood panelling and modern glass lighting inside. HUUS Gstaad has 136 rooms and suites, two restaurants and three bars, and a crackling fire for that cup of Swiss hot chocolate or mulled wine after skiing.

Hotel Der Stubaierhof, Neustift im Stubaital

A family-run hotel in the Stubai Valley, with the Stubai Glacier ski area close by, peaks over 3,000 metres and a village centre a short stroll away. Dinner is a multi-course affair, and the wellness area has a year-round heated outdoor pool and a range of saunas, including Finnish mountain hay and pinewood salt. HIP readers can claim 10% off direct bookings with the code Hiphotels.

Serras Andorra, Soldeu

In the Incles Valley, among the slopes of Grandvalira, Serras Andorra has a historic stone-and-wood façade and a warm, modern and romantic interior. The restaurant takes Andorran produce and gives it a modern twist, and the spa offers Natura Bissé treatments in its wellness cabins.
